Registration Reminders

  • Search for your course on the Class Availability. Make note of the course reference number (CRN) to be used for registration.
  • Courses in the Extension terms have 4-digit CRNs.
  • Look at the start and end dates of your selected courses; numerous courses do not begin on the first day of the term.
  • Some courses are held off campus or on neighbor islands. Check the location of the courses before you register.
  • Students registering for courses numbered 500+ are required to have a bachelorʻs degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or its equivalent from a recognized foreign institution of higher learning.

After being admitted as a UH student and setting up your UH Username, you will be able to access the STAR GPS Registration System directly or through MyUH.

Getting Started with STAR GPS Registration

These instructions are intended for students admitted through UHM Outreach College. Classified UH students, whose degree requirements have been defined through STAR, will see their suggested requirements in each semester box. UH students should consult with their Academic Advisor for assistance.

  1. Make sure GPS Registration has been selected.
  2. Click the Register button in the upcoming semester’s box.

The welcome screen only appears the first time you access STAR GPS to register for courses. You will find videos that introduce STAR and provide tutorials for registration. We recommend you watch the tutorials about STAR GPS Registration before you move on.

Building Your Course Schedule (Add Personal Choice)

Unclassified or Non-Degree Seeking Students do not have a graduation pathway. If you were admitted through Outreach College, you will not have a graduation pathway defined.

  1. Click the +Add Personal Choice button.

Selecting Your Courses

You will be selecting courses, one at a time, to create your schedule. Selecting a course will take you to the screen where you can search for and choose a course.

  1. Click Select a Course for the Requirement.
  2. To add another course to your schedule, click the +Add Personal Choice button.

Searching for Courses

The screen will be divided into three (3) sections. Use the left section to search for courses by specific characteristics. The middle section displays the courses found. The right section shows your schedule and the courses you have chosen or have yet to choose.

Small Screen?
If you have a device with a small screen or you prefer a smaller window, you can view each section individually. Use the icons on the upper right in the Blue Menu bar.

Search Tips

  1. Be sure that the correct Campus and Semester has been chosen. The search defaults to your primary campus and the current registration term.
  2. Search for courses using any of the filters shown in the left section. To see hidden filters, click Show More Filters, then Show Other Attributes to expand those options.
  3. The filters do not automatically reset, so be careful to de-select previous search filters as needed, to continue with your search.
  4. Remember to click the Search button every time you use the filters to change your search parameters.

Viewing Course Details

You can view course information details by clicking on the arrow to the right of the course title, to expand the field under the course name. Click the arrow again to collapse or hide the course details.

  • Prerequisites and other restrictions (time conflict, co-requisites, etc.) appear in the course details.

Need Course Descriptions?
Find course descriptions in the UH Mānoa Catalog.

Need Prerequisite Overrides?
Contact the Instructor or the Academic Department for the course.

Search by Campus and Semester

Be sure that the correct Campus and Semester has been chosen. The search defaults to your primary campus and the current registration term.

  1. If you want to register for courses at another campus, select your desired Campus first using the drop-down menu.
  2. Change the Semester if necessary.
  3. Click the Search button. The results will display in the middle section.

Need to Register for Extension Term courses?

  1. Choose "Manoa" as the Campus first (Manoa, Manoa Outreach College, etc.).
  2. Change the Semester to "Extension" using the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Search button. The results will display in the middle.

Search by Course Reference Number (CRN)

If you know the Course Reference Number (CRN) of the class you want to register for, search for it in the section to the left.

  1. Make sure that the correct Campus and Semester has been selected.
  2. Type in the CRN you are looking for.
  3. Click the Search button. The results will display in the middle section.

Fall Extension Courses 4-digit CRN Starts with the number 1
Spring Extension Courses 4-digit CRN Starts with the number 3
Summer Extension Courses 4-digit CRN Starts with the number 4

Search by Instruction Type (Online Courses)

Make sure that the correct Campus and Semester has been selected.

  1. Click Show More Filters in the left section.
  2. Use the drop-down menu to select Distance – Completely Online.
  3. Click the Search button. The results will display in the middle section.

Search by Focus Requirements and Other Attributes

UHM undergraduate students are required to take a number of courses that fulfill the General Education requirements. Please refer to the UH Mānoa Catalog for more details.

  1. To search by Focus Requirements, click Show More Filters. Under Attributes, mark your selections and click Search.
  2. To search by other General Education requirements, click Show Other Attributes. Mark your selections and click Search.

Choosing a Course

  1. Once you have found a course you want to register for, choose it by clicking on the circle to the left of the course title.

    Your chosen course will appear in the section to the right (your schedule).

    Online courses will show at the top under Requirements and on the bottom under the schedule grid, but will not show in the schedule grid, as online courses do not have set meeting days and times.

  2. After you have finished selecting all of your courses, click Continue on the upper right. You will return to the Requirements screen.

Selecting Your Next Course

  1. Your courses are listed in the section on the right. If you have multiple courses (or requirements), click the course you want to view under Requirements. Repeat the steps to search for and choose your additional course.
  2. If you need to create another course, click Back to Requirements or Continue. You will return to the Requirements screen. Click the +Add Personal Choice button. Then click Select a Course for the Requirement to search for and choose your additional course.
  3. Every time you select a course, the search filters reset and defaults to your primary campus and the current registration term.

Submitting Your Registration

The registration status of the course you selected is shown on the left.

Pending Registration: You will not be registered for the course until you submit your registration.

Registered: The course has been successfully registered.

  1. Carefully review the courses you have selected.

    Reset button: Clears your selection so you can start over.

    Edit button: Choose a different course.

  2. Click the Submit Registration button.

Making Changes to Your Registration

  • Make adjustments to your schedule within the published deadlines as shown on the Academic Calendar for the specific course.
  • If you do not officially drop a course, an “F” or “NC” grade may be assigned by the instructor in place of a passing grade. You may still be obligated to pay tuition and fees for these courses.
  • Any changes to your UH Mānoa enrollment status may impact benefits you are receiving. Drops and withdrawals may affect students’ academic standing or financial aid standing. With this in mind, carefully consider the implications of decreasing your credit load.
  • After any adds or drops, confirm your enrollment online and review your account for any outstanding balances.

Drop or Withdraw from a Course

To avoid academic and financial penalties, be sure to drop unwanted courses by the deadlines as shown on the Academic Calendar for the course.

  1. Click on the Drop or Edit button to the left of the course title.

    Drop button: Drop or Withdraw from the course.

    Edit button: Choose a different course.

  2. The registration status of the course on the left will change to "Pending." You still have a chance to cancel the drop.

    Reset button: Cancels the drop and resets to the original registered course.

  3. Click the Submit Registration button.

Change Grading Options

You must be registered in the course first before changing the grading option.

  1. Click on Change next to the Grade Mode.
  2. Use the drop-down menu to choose your preferred grading option and follow the prompt to select it.
  3. Click the Submit Registration button.

Deadline to change grading option?
Last day to add the course (see Academic Calendar).

Change Credit Amounts for Variable Credit Courses

You must be registered in the course first before changing credit amounts for your variable credit course.

  1. Click on Change next to the Credits. Follow the prompts to change your credit hours.
  2. Click the Submit Registration button.

Last day to add the course (see Academic Calendar).

Making Payment

  1. Click the Make Payment button on the upper right to view your charges.
  2. Click the Make Payment button on the bottom to submit your payment. You will be sent to the online payment system.

Printing Your Schedule

  1. Click the three lines on the upper right to open the hidden menu.
  2. Print your course schedule; note that it includes your classroom location and instructorʻs name.

Checking your course schedule often for errors or updates is highly recommended.

Logging Out

  1. Click Back to Pathway on the upper left. You will return to the Graduation Pathway screen.
  2. Click Logout on upper right.
