Learn modern dance techniques and sequences while developing freedom of movement and expression with master instructor Keiko Fujii.
Starting from simple exercises to warm up, explore lyrical and natural movements of the human body while finding confidence and joy in your physical expression:
- Falling, rebounding, and recovery
- Foot exercises with modern movements
- Swings and suspension
- Tense and release; natural motion without tensing or gripping muscles
- Floor work: stretching
- Across the floor: walking, running, leaping, turning, and opposition
- Dance works/combination: meet spatial sequences with rhythm, dynamics, and space design
All levels are welcome.
Keiko Fujii was born in Osaka, Japan where she is a prominent dance performer, choreographer, and teacher. She is director/choreographer of the Keiko Fujii Dance Company, which has performed at home in Japan as well as abroad in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. She is also head of Studio K in Osaka, which provides training in ballet, modern, and jazz dance. She has performed and taught workshops in Hawai‘i previously, and is currently serving as guest artist for University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa's annual dance concert, this time entitled “Roots and Offshoots,” to be held at the Kennedy Theatre in the spring.
